Polecat Bench. January 2009.A "Superior Mirage" appears above the actual object. It occurs when a layer of warm air slides over a layer of cold air, causing the light to bend towards the colder air. One result is to stretch, elongate, or duplicate the objects beneath it. The image below is a normal shot of the the buildings and the pile of gravel in the photo above.
